Taichung’s population is now just over one million (April. 2008 = 1,059,821)

Just over half of the population is female.

Weather

According to the weather statistics, the city’s annual average temperature is 23℃ and annual average rainfall is about 1708mm, and the average humidity is 80%. (Source: Taichung Weather Station, Central Weather Bureau; data collected period: 1897-1995) Taichung has mild weather, less humidity, less typhoons, and less rainy days than other regions of Taiwan, yet there is no lack of water supply.

The Palimara Alstonia and the Christmas Kalanchoe were chosen by the residents of Taichung City in 1988 as the city tree and the city flower.
